San Diego’s Sunset Cliffs Elopement and Civil Ceremony Photographer

Are you considering eloping or having a civil ceremony at Sunset Cliffs?

Sunset Cliffs offers an enchanting and intimate setting with breathtaking panoramic views of the pacific ocean and stunning coastal cliffs for your special day. Sunset Cliffs is the epitome of romance, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a memorable elopement or civil ceremony. The scenery is spectacular as much as it is serene. The rugged coastline makes an excellent backdrop for any elopement. Ending your day looking out over the ocean with your best friend. I can't imagine a better way to start your new life together.

Permit: You will need a wedding permit to elope and have your ceremony at Sunset Cliffs! The permit application can be found here and costs under $200

Keep in mind that this isn't a private venue, so while getting a permit guarantees that you'll be the only couple tying the knot at that time (and those park rangers won't kick you out), it doesn't mean there won't be other visitors and park goers.

We work alongside our favorite officiants if you choose the permitted route.

Suppose you are considering taking your elopement/wedding portraits at Sunset Cliffs (with no wedding ceremony). Consider a Civil Ceremony downtown San Diego, Civil Ceremonies are only held during the week, and the downtown location is just 15 mins away. You can find more info HERE.

You can meet me at the cliffs for your portraits or have me document your civil ceremony at the court, and then we will make our way to Sunset Cliffs. You won’t need a permit, and there are no limitations on where you can go in the park. Our portrait session will be as adventurous as you want. The cliffs have so many photo ops.

You are limited to two permitted ceremony locations if you choose to have your ceremony at Sunset Cliffs.

Osprey Point and Luscomb Point. Both have flat terrain, easy access, and plenty of room if you are having guests join you! Both locations do not have bathroom facilities.

That said, the easy accessibility makes these locations very popular destinations.

Feeling Adventureous?

If you are up for an adventure in your wedding attire, it would involve walking on a well-worn path leading to Garbage Beach, offering equally stunning ocean views and surrounding cliffs.

The Path leads to steep sandstone bluffs, and a knotted rope is required to climb down the rest of the way; it is relatively easy. And so very worth it; there are next to no crowds here, and you can appear to be walking on water with the right tide levels :)

When should you consider planning your elopement at Sunset Cliffs?

All four seasons may vary;

"Winter" is the season for layering, and you will see fewer crowds.

"Spring" Cliffsides are blooming, but "May Gray" is in full swing, which goes into June Gloom; these are local nicknames for the Marine layer that creates a cloudy few months on the coast. Giving your imagery a moody feel, with luck, it clears up sometimes in time for one of the most beautiful sunsets that hundreds of locals and tourists flock to see at the cliffs.

"Summer" is the warmest and the busiest, like most iconic and scenic locations. The crowds can be overwhelming. Weekday elopements and portraits are highly recommended.

"Fall" is my favorite the weather is a beautiful balance between winter and summer, and the crowds are way less.

OUR TIP TO YOU……

Avoid weekend crowds

Suppose you choose the permitted route for a ceremony at the Cliffs, No matter what time of year you elope. I highly recommend you select a weekday for your ceremony. Weekends are busier anywhere you go, and getting married while most people are at work or school will help you get some privacy! Be careful to avoid holidays and three-day weekends too.
