Why am I shooting 35mm film Photography now and not then?

I am a seasoned wedding photographer with a passion for film photography. It has been my profession for over 15 years, and I have always loved the nostalgic feel of Film. It has been an unfiltered part of my life. I learned to shoot on Film because it was the only option available. My dad loved photography, and I fondly remember looking at photo albums with him and my mum. While some pictures were imperfect, they were authentic and captured real-life moments. These albums remind us of the people and places that once filled our lives. The adventures taken, and the celebrations. Looking back at our photo albums would ground me and help me appreciate my life.

Yep, that’s me on my mum’s lap. This image is almost 50 years old and still holds so much vivid color. It makes me wonder whether we were in a waiting room, someone’s home, or something else. This still moment has its story.

I’m the youngest of the siblings, on the far left, with my sippy cup. The colors in this image invoke nostalgia, warmth, and love.

But if you have been with me on my journey, you know I was not always shooting Film!! It was all digital for quite some time until recently. I shot Film for personal projects here and there and assisted and guided my son on how to use Film since he is an old soul who also loves all that is vintage with its own story.

I realized that the only thing holding me back from transitioning to Film for my weddings was "ME"; I needed to get out of my way. I finally re-believed in myself and decided to take the plunge instead of wishing I could do it or talking about it and then talking myself out of it. I am so happy that I did! I purchased myself a Nikon F5 from an amazingly talented Analogue Fine Art photographer who's been in the industry for 50 years. Check him out here.

And I am putting this baby to use! My bride’s wearing a gorgeous dress from Beloved Couture Bridal with 2024’s Oversized Bow.
